My Quest for a Decent Guitar Sound at Low Volumes

Over the years I have spent thousands on trying to get a decent electric guitar sound at lower ‘bedroom’ volume levels. I invested in all sorts of equipment to try and accomplish this, and really never had success.

The Names of the Notes

As you will now be aware, the guitar has 6 strings. Each of these strings are named as a musical note.

In music letters are assigned to notes. These run from A to G. There are also sharps or flats in between but we will discuss these later.

To tune your guitar you need to know what notes relate to the strings on the guitar.

Tuning Up

So you have chosen the type of guitar you want to buy. Before you leave the guitar shop there is another important item you will need – a guitar tuner.

Guitar tuners come in all shapes, styles and sizes. For now, something very basic will do the job for you. I would suggest you only need to spend £18 or less on a tuner.

Left Or Right Handed?

One important factor that I forgot to mention yesterday – standard guitars are for right handed people.

There are such products as left handed guitars. This is not to say that if you are left handed you should immediately look for a left handed version. Really with a standard guitar the left hand is doing most of the hard work! It’s important if you are left handed to try out both before you buy but for the most, if you are left handed get a left handed guitar.
